Underground Structures with Recurring Leaks: Comprehensive Remediation Approach
Injection of Cement Grout (Single-Component and Dual-Component) to Block Major Water Inflows
Injecting dual-component grout on the water-facing side of the structure enables rapid setting to block major emergency water inflows. It also fills voids between structural layers, displacing accumulated water and blocking major water pathways. This creates favorable conditions for reducing pressure during chemical grouting on the non-water-facing side while also mitigating new leaks to a certain extent.
Chemical Grouting for Minor Leaks

Minor seepage caused by cracks, honeycombing, and failure of pre-installed waterproofing measures in concrete structures cannot be permanently eliminated by grouting with cement slurry alone. Additional chemical grouting must be performed from the water-facing side (station side) to address the issue. Chemical grouts typically feature non-particulate, rapid-setting or fast-setting properties, enabling them to penetrate deep into fine structural defects. They fill and seal these defects, blocking seepage pathways and eliminating residual leakage problems.

We can liken “cement slurry” to “traditional Chinese medicine” and “chemical slurry” to “Western medicine.” Strengthening the foundation requires “traditional Chinese medicine,” while achieving immediate results for symptom relief still calls for “Western medicine.” Only by addressing both symptoms and root causes can we meet the quality requirements of “acceptance standards.” Of course, with future technological advancements, it may become possible for “traditional Chinese medicine” to treat symptoms and “Western medicine” to address root causes.
